It’s beyond rare for an offensive lineman to be named most valuable player of a district or conference, but Mansfield (Texas) Timberview three-star and Texas pledge Andre Cojoe pulled off the feat.

The 6-foot-6, 345-pounder garnered Texas 5A-5 DI District MVP honors on Monday evening. He was certainly overwhelmed.

“It was great,” said Cojoe. “My coaches are really surprised because they’ve never seen an offensive lineman become District MVP.”

Last spring, Cojoe mentioned to Inside Texas that becoming a better leader and working on strength and speed were areas of focus for him. He put in the work and helped lead Timberview to one of its best seasons ever.

“I did everything the best I could,” Cojoe told Inside Texas. “I really improved in being a leader and playing my role in our offense.”

Cojoe is now set to enroll in Austin in early January. He fits the Kyle Flood recipe for O-linemen with his size and 84.25-inch wingspan.

“Coach Flood is really just ready for me to show up and start coaching me,” Cojoe said.

Cojoe committed to the Longhorns on June 26th after receiving offers from Texas, TCU, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and Arizona State. Head coach Steve Sarkisian and offensive line coach/OC Kyle Flood watched Cojoe last Friday in Timberview’s playoff matchup with Longview.

Sarkisian and his staff currently have commitments from three interior offensive linemen in Cojoe, Frisco (Texas) Wakeland’s Connor Stroh and Harker Heights (Texas) four-star Jaydon Chatman. UT also has pledges from two offensive tackles in Melissa (Texas) three-star Trevor Goosby and Orlando (Fla.) Dr. Phillips four-star Payton Kirkland.

Texas’ 2023 recruiting class is No. 5 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 1 in the Big 12.
