Before Texas and Oklahoma meet October 12 in the Cotton Bowl for the Red River Shootout, supporters of both the Longhorns and the Sooners can battle it out on the links for NIL money. The Texas One Fund and 1Oklahoma, the main NIL collectives for Texas and Oklahoma, respectively, are hosting The Golden Hat Classic at the Omni PGA Frisco Resort on October 10. The winning side will see 55 percent of the pot go to its NIL collective. The loser receives 45 percent.

“I can’t wait for this Ryder Cup-inspired experience to have my Longhorn team line up across from our fiercest rivals with bragging rights and NIL funds for student-athletes on the line,” Colt McCoy, a captain for the event, said in a statement. “Competition brings out the best of us and I’m looking forward to October 10th.”

The two teams will have 20 members apiece, and each side is bringing in some legendary figures to serve as captains. Texas will have McCoy as captain while Sam Bradford will do the same for Oklahoma.

There will be Ryder Cup style foursomes, four ball, and single matches.

This is not the Regular Get Teed Off at OU Golf Classic put on by the Dallas chapter of the Texas Exes. Details for that event are not yet public.

Omni PGA Frisco has two courses at its Fields Ranch facility. Fields Ranch East is a Gil Hanse par 72 course and harkens to redesigned Southern Hills in Tulsa, Okla. Fields Ranch West is a par 72 course designed by Beau Welling.
