Texas QB KJ Lacey Wins Alabama’s 2024 Mr. Football

KJ Lacey, the standout quarterback from Saraland High School and a Texas Longhorns signee, has been named Alabama’s 2024 Mr. Football. The award, presented by the Alabama Sports Writers Association, recognizes the top high school football player in the state and was announced at the Player of the Year Banquet on Tuesday in Montgomery.

Lacey’s achievement continues Saraland’s tradition of producing elite football talent. Last year’s Mr. Football winner was his former teammate, Ryan Williams, who made an immediate impact as a freshman at Alabama. Following in those footsteps, Lacey delivered a stellar senior season, proving he was worthy of joining the list of winners.

In 2024, Lacey threw for 3,042 yards, 40 touchdowns, and had just seven interceptions. His ability to lead Saraland’s high-powered offense propelled the Spartans to their third consecutive Class 6A state championship game. Many thought the team might struggle offensively with Williams now in college, but Lacey rose to the challenge. His combination of leadership, precision passing, and poise under pressure helped Saraland maintain its status as one of Alabama’s premier high school programs.

Lacey has already enrolled at Texas and is getting to work under the guidance of head coach Steve Sarkisian. Texas fans can look forward to watching the talented quarterback develop within the program, learning from Sarkisian and potentially another standout quarterback already on the roster.

Lacey’s accomplishments in high school have set the stage for what could be a promising career at Texas. With his skill set and dedication, he adds another exciting piece to the Longhorns quarterback pipeline, giving fans plenty to be excited about for the future.
