Ewers, a Southlake (Texas) Carroll product, completed 24-of-38 passes for 349 yards and three touchdowns to help the Longhorns to a 34-24 victory over then-No. 3 Alabama on Saturday night.

Ewers was pivotal in the Longhorns’ 21-point fourth quarter effort with a pair of touchdown strikes that allowed Texas to defeat Alabama and snapped the Crimson Tide’s 21-game home winning streak. In the fourth quarter alone, Ewers was 6-of-7 for 135 yards and the two touchdowns.

In addition to the Big 12 accolades, Ewers was also named to the Davey O’Brien Award’s Great 8 and a Manning Award Star of the Week. He also took home Walter Camp offensive player of the week honors.

The Texas (2-0) win was the first non-conference road victory for the Longhorns over an AP Top-3 opponent in program history and the first victory on the road against any top-three team since the No. 1-ranked Longhorns won “The Game of the Century” at conference foe and second-ranked Arkansas, 15-14, in 1969.

On3 PERSONAL LIFE

Known for his ability on the field and off the field for his golden mullet, Quinn Ewers was the No. 1 player in the 2022 recruiting class. But he reclassified to the 2021 cycle before the start of his senior season of high school at Southlake (Texas) Carroll. Ewers enrolled at Ohio State but lasted less than a semester on campus in Columbus before entering the transfer portal. Despite being the Buckeyes’ fourth-string quarterback, Ewers secured NIL deals worth north of $1 million. Ewers is part of a small group of elite quarterbacks that skipped his senior season to enroll early in college. Other names on that include John David Booty, Jake Bentley and J.T. Daniels. Ewers said he started growing his mullet during his freshman year of high school and it’s only been cut once since. “I don’t get the haircut to bring the spotlight onto me,” Ewers told Sports Illustrated. “I just do it to be myself,”
