After his 16-of-24, 225-yard, two-touchdown performance against ULM, Ewers found positive takeaways following his first collegiate start.

“My biggest takeaway is, you know, not getting too high and not getting to low,” said Ewers. “You know, I’m saying not getting too high on the eyes and, you know, just kind of staying even keel.”

Keeping that calm, cool demeanor is paramount to the success of the Longhorns on Saturday. But Ewers isn’t changing his routine.

“You know, I prepare the same way we do every week,” Ewers said. “At the end of the day, it’s, you know, another opportunity we have to go out there and show what we can do and it’s going to be a lot of fun. I’m excited.”

It’s hard to ignore when the No. 1 ranked team in the country comes into your backyard, and Ewers is taking it as an opportunity to shine.

“(Alabama) is a great program and a historic program,” said Ewers. “You know, I’m excited excited to get on the field. At the end of the day, it’s a great opportunity. You know, they’re fast. They’re good tacklers. And you know, they do everything the right way. And I’m really excited.”

“Going back looking at the film, I definitely missed some opportunities,” Ewers explained. “Wish I had a couple throws back but at the end of the day, it’s a great learning experience for me and I’m glad I faced some adversity just to kind of get over that first little edge. We’ll fix you know, some of the throws and you know, it comes with it.”

What about the imposing Alabama duo of Will Anderson and Dallas Turner, two likely first-round draft picks in the 2023 NFL Draft?

“(Anderson) plays with a lot of effort,” said Ewers. “He’s a big effort guy. And obviously he knows the game very well. And you know, he knows how to be a good edge-rusher.”

If Texas has any shot at the Crimson Tide on Saturday, Ewers has an idea of what they’ll need to upset the storied program.

“Chemistry,” Ewers said. “Chemistry is a big, big thing for this team. You know, I’ll take chemistry over talent all the time, every day. Because when you have that chemistry, everything kind of clicks.”

Come this Saturday, the Longhorns will need plenty of chemistry to overcome a formidable opponent in No. 1 Alabama. After passing his first test, Ewers is ready for the next challenge. Even if his car gets towed again.
