As it stands currently with nine incoming transfers and 15 players who decided to enter the portal to leave the program, the Texas Longhorns currently have the No. 22 ranked transfer portal class according to On3. Steve Sarkisian often mentions how the Longhorns won’t live in the portal but will rather utilize it to bolster the roster for a variety of reasons. With multiple needs remaining, there’s a good chance the Longhorns move past some other transfer-heavy teams and break the top 20, if not the top 15, of the rankings.

Among SEC teams, Texas is behind No. 2 Ole Miss, No. 3 LSU, No. 7 Auburn, No. 10 Missouri, No. 12 Kentucky, No. 15 Texas A&M, and No. 17 South Carolina. Every one of those teams has taken at least fourteen transfers compared to Texas’ nine. Ole Miss, Missouri, and Kentucky have each taken over 20, with Ole Miss signing a staggering 28 portal prospects (Purdue has brought in a jaw-dropping 36 portal prospects).

The Longhorns might leave the single-digit club, where teams like Ohio State and Duke reside and still rank within the top 30. By doing so, they’ll pair a top portal class with the No. 1 ranked 2025 recruiting class in the nation.

Here’s how On3 determines transfer portal team rankings

On3’s Team Transfer Portal Index utilizes the On3 (P)erformance score to measure a team’s production during the transfer process, compared relative against its roster and not a comparison against other schools. This proprietary algorithm determines if a school has improved its overall team talent, stayed the same, or declined in talent during the transfer window.

Texas Tech leads the nation with an index score of 90 and has the top overall portal class. Second-place Ole Miss has a score of 66. Texas is at 17, point higher than No. 23 Houston who has 12 more portal commits than the Longhorns.

Texas has done well, with the large majority of their portal additions in the top 200 of rankings that do not have the same amount of manhours put into it as high school prospect rankings. Reviews are positive on players like Brevard, Kanu, and Bouwmeester. Reviews will likely be positive for Endries, Mosley, and Shipley in the coming months.

There’s more room to grow and spots to climb for Texas in the portal rankings before they’re all said and done.
