This is UT’s first trip to Tuscaloosa, Ala. to play the Crimson Tide since 1902 when they were known as the Crimson White.

Texas remained at No. 11 despite losses by Clemson and LSU, who were ranked No. 9 and No. 5 in the preseason poll, respectively. The Longhorns defeated Rice 37-10 in their Week 1 affair. Alabama dispatched Middle Tennessee State.

Texas has not been in the top 10 of the AP Poll since the Horns were ranked No. 9 in the September 27, 2020 poll. Texas would fall to TCU 33-31 in the matchup following the release of that ranking.

Other Big 12 teams to make the top 25 included No. 15 Kansas State and No. 18 Oklahoma. The only other school from the state of Texas to earn a spot in the poll was No. 23 Texas A&M.

Big 12 schools that received votes included TCU, Iowa State, Texas Tech, Houston, and UCF.

Texas State was also in the receiving votes category.

This week will be Texas’ first game in the home stadium of a top five opponent since the Longhorns faced No. 4 USC in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in 2017. Sam Ehlinger and the Horns fell 27-24 to Sam Darnold and the Trojans. Texas hosted two top-five opponents last year, falling to both No. 1 Alabama and No. 4 TCU at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
