With the calendar turning to 2024, the days remaining until the Texas Longhorns baseball season continue to shrink in number. After a year that saw David Pierce’s program win the Big 12, advance to the Super Regional round, and suffer a heartbreaking loss to Stanford in Palo Alto, the Longhorns returned star pitchers Lebarron Johnson Jr. and Tanner Witt for the team’s final season in the Big 12.

Preseason polls have started to trickle out, and D1Baseball.com released their preseason top 25 on Tuesday. The Longhorns were ranked No. 16 after finishing the 2023 season ranked No. 14.

Texas is one of four Big 12 teams in the top 25. TCU leads the way for the conference at No. 5. Texas follows at No. 16, then Texas Tech at No. 21 and Kansas State at No. 24.

A number of teams from the 2024 schedule were also ranked in the top 25. The Longhorns face No. 4 LSU, the defending national champions, as part of the Astros Foundation College Classic at Minute Maid Park on Friday, March 1. On March 3, the Longhorns will play No. 6 Vanderbilt as part of that same event.
