Texas ranked No. 25 in ESPN's way-too-early top 25
With the NBA draft picture now crystal clear after the deadline to return to school passed on Wednesday night, ESPN updated its way-too-early top 25 rankings for the 2023-2024 college basketball season. With the return of Dillon Mitchell, Tyrese Hunter, Dylan Disu, and other portal additions to Rodney Terry’s squad, the Longhorns checked in at No. 25 in the rankings.

The Longhorns were previously outside of the top 25.
Rodney Terry did an incredible job taking over for Chris Beard last season, guiding the Longhorns to 29 wins, a Big 12 conference tournament title and an Elite Eight appearance. But now comes the reloading process. Texas brings back Tyrese Hunter at point guard and landed Oral Roberts transfer Max Abmas, one of the premier scorers in college basketball. The key will be Dillon Mitchell taking a step forward on the wing.

Other Big 12 teams to make the top 25 included No. 1 Kansas, No. 6 Houston, and No. 20 Baylor.
The Longhorns return Disu, Mitchell, Hunter, Brock Cunningham, and Alex Anamekwe from last year’s team. They added Oral Roberts guard Max Abmas, UT-Arlington guard Chendall Weaver, UTEP forward Ze’Rik Onyema, and Virginia center Kadin Shedrick via the portal in the most recent cycle.

Texas is still in pursuit of one more player, likely a grad transfer guard, from the transfer portal.
