Texas ranked No. 7 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings

The Texas Longhorns remain in the thick of the College Football Playoff race, as evidenced by their No. 7 ranking in the most recent top 25 released by the College Football Playoff selection committee on Tuesday night.

The Longhorns remain the second highest ranked one-loss team, one spot behind No. 6 Oregon and one spot ahead of No. 8 Alabama.

Other Big 12 teams to make the ranking include No. 14 Oklahoma, No. 21 Kansas State, No. 23 Oklahoma State, and No. 25 Kansas. The only other team from the Longhorns’ schedule in the rankings was the No. 8 Crimson Tide.

The No. 7 rankings ties previous weeks for the highest ranking in school history in the College Football Playoff top 25.

There was a change at the top of the rankings, as Georgia jumped Ohio State for the No. 1 spot. The Bulldogs are coming off of a dominant win over the Ole Miss Rebels and have secured a spot in the SEC Championship game versus Alabama.

Texas returns to action this Saturday versus the Iowa State Cyclones in Ames, Iowa. Kickoff will be 7 p.m. on Saturday, and Fox will televise the contest. It is the Longhorns final scheduled trip to Jack Trice Stadium.
