Texas running back Tre Wisner has been one of the unsung heroes of the 2024 season. From leading the team in rushing after beginning the year as the fourth string tailback, to returning to AT&T Stadium, to facing a stout Ohio State defensive front, Wisner has seen a little bit of everything before the Horns face the Buckeyes in the College Football Playoff semifinals on Friday from the Goodyear Cotton Bowl in Arlington, Tx.

As the Longhorns enter tomorrow’s playoff as the underdog, what’s it going to take to beat Ohio State?

“Just coming out, working hard, going over the things we went through in practice, and locking down the little details,’ Wisner told Inside Texas.

It’ll also take toughness, something that Wisner has displayed over his years of competing. From playing with a broken wrist and tooth going through his lip, the Longhorns running back attributes his strength and tenacity to his family and upbringing.

“Just goes back to the way I was raised,” Wisner said. “Credit to my family, showing us the hard way and showing us that if you want it hard, then you’ll have it hard but with no easy way out. Shoutout to my mom, parents, my dad, my grandma for just raising me hard, but not too hard where I couldn’t bear it, but to just show me this is the way should be done. Life shouldn’t be easy.”

With the newest 1,000-yard rusher in Austin, Wisner has an idea about what makes the Ohio State defense good at stopping the run and if the Horns still find opportunities to run the rock?

“Because they’re physical and they run to the ball,” said Wisner, about OSU’s defense led by Jim Knowles. “Definitely, we just lock in on the little details that we work on in practice.”

Wisner is no stranger to AT&T Stadium in Arlington, home to the Texas UIL State Championships. He won a title with Desoto in 2021.

“It’s definitely a blessing,” said Wisner. “It’s going to be fun and exciting. I get to ride out with my guys again, being back at AT&T will be exciting.”
