The 2022 schedule for the reigning Big 12 baseball champion Texas Longhorns was released Thursday. Two series with SEC teams, the Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic, David Pierce’s return to Sam Houston State, and a renewal of the rivalry with Texas A&M make up the 2022 slate.

Texas opens the year versus the Rice Owls, with new head coach Jose Cruz Jr. making his debut in Austin. The Longhorns play two against Texas A&M – Corpus Christi at Whataburger Field in the midweek before returning to UFCU Disch-Falk Field for a series against the Alabama Crimson Tide.

As the calendar turns to March, Pierce returns to Huntsville for a game versus Sam Houston State. Pierce’s first collegiate head coaching job was with the Bearkats, where he won three straight Southland titles from 2012 to 2014.

Texas then takes on Tennessee, LSU, and UCLA in the Shriners College Classic at Minute Maid Park from March 4-6 before heading to San Marcos to play two at Texas State.

The Longhorns then make a swing to the Palmetto State, beginning with a series versus South Carolina beginning March 11. Texas then plays College of Charleston on March 15 and The Citadel one day later.

Before Big 12 begins for the Longhorns, they welcome Incarnate Word to the Disch March 18-20. Central Arkansas on March 22 is the last tune-up before Pierce’s club travels to Lubbock to face perennial conference power Texas Tech.

When the Longhorns return home, the Aggies and new A&M head coach Jim Schlossnagle await them in Austin on March 29. Then, Texas travels north of the Red River to face the Oklahoma Sooners the first three days in April.

A home game versus UT-Rio Grande Valley leads into the first home conference series, a three game set against TCU and new Horned Frog head coach Kirk Sarloos. Texas hosts Stephen F. Austin on April 12 before traveling to Manhattan, Kan. for a conference matchup.
