Texas moves up in College Football Playoff rankings, setting up top-20 matchup with TCU

After making an appearance last week in the 2022 initial College Football Playoff rankings, the Texas Longhorns remained a top 25 team in the eyes of the selection committee.

The Longhorns (6-3, 4-2 Big 12) were ranked as the No. 18 team in the committee’s second rankings.
The Big 12 leading TCU Horned Frogs (9-0, 6-0 Big 12) were slotted as the No. 4 team. Texas was behind the Horned Frogs at No. 18, one spot ahead of No. 19 Kansas State (6-3, 4-2 Big 12). The committee previously ranked the Wildcats as the No. 13 team.
The Oklahoma State Cowboys (6-2, 3-2) fell out of the top 25.
No other teams from the state of Texas were included in the committee’s selection. LSU was the highest rated two-loss team at No. 7. The Longhorns were the highest rated three-loss team.

The playoff semifinals this year will be hosted by the Fiesta Bowl and the Peach Bowl on December 31, 2022. The College Football Playoff National Championship is scheduled for January 9, 2023. SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, Calif. will serve as the host site.
Texas’ highest finish ever in the CFP rankings came in 2018 when they were the No. 15 team following a loss to the Oklahoma Sooners in the Big 12 Championship.
