Texas remains the No. 1 team in the AP Poll with No. 5 Georgia heading to town

The Texas Longhorns remained the No. 1 team in the Associated Press top 25 on Sunday following their 34-3 win over the Oklahoma Sooners. Texas’ upcoming opponent in Georgia was ranked No. 5, setting up the first top-five matchup at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium since the No. 2 Longhorns hosted the No. 1 Buckeyes in 2006.

The Longhorns received 56 first-place votes. No. 2 Oregon, who defeated Ohio State 32-32, earned the other six first-place votes.

Teams on Texas’ schedule in the top 25 include No. 5 Georgia, No. 14 Texas A&M, and No. 24 Micghian.

Oklahoma, Vanderbilt, and Arkansas were in the receiving votes category.

Texas last faced Georgia in the Sugar Bowl on January 1, 2019. Sam Ehlinger led the Longhorns to a 28-21 victory over the Bulldogs. Texas holds a 4-1 advantage all time over UGA.

In the Coaches Poll, the Longhorns remained at No. 1 and earned 53 of a 55 possible first-place votes. Oregon earned the other two first place votes.

Teams on Texas’ schedule in the Coaches Poll included No. 4 Georgia, No. 14 Texas A&M, and No. 22 Michigan. Oklahoma dropped out of the top-25 into the receiving votes category. Vanderbilt also was receiving votes.
