Auburn director of recruiting Kenyatta Watson, father of former Longhorn defensive back Kenyatta Watson II, approved of the hire on X.

“SOOOOO HAPPY FOR MY GUY!!! ALL LOVE @coacherrinjoe GO KILL IT!!! 🫡🤞,” Watson tweeted.

Joe, a former Georgia Tech offensive lineman, was in his second stint in Atlanta. He was previously at Alabama under former Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban, who plucked him from the Georgia Tech program in 2022.

In 2022, On3 named Joe as a “rising star personnel and recruiting staffer you need to know.” Also on that list was current Texas general manager Brandon Harris, current Texas director of player personnel John Michael Jones, and current Texas director of recruiting Taylor Searels.

According to his GT bio, Joe was a graduate assistant for Georgia Tech from 2018 to 2021 helping with the offensive line before sliding over to the scouting department. He left for UConn before quickly heading to Tuscaloosa, Ala.

He was a starter for the Yellow Jackets for his final two seasons as a player. He attended Lakeland (Fla.) Lake Gibson and was a three-star prospect in the 2011 class.

CBS Sports was first to report.
