Four Longhorn starters reached double-figures in scoring. Max Abmas led all scorers with 16 points. He was followed by Kadin Shedrick who had 15 points. Dillon Mitchell recorded a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Tyrese Hunter bounced back after an 0-fer versus the Golden Eagles with a 12 point performance against the Huskies. Ze’Rik Onyema also added nine points.
HCU kept things within reach during the first 10 minutes of the first half, but the second ten minutes of the period would go on to define the game. Texas led 18-17 entering the under-12 timeout, but from there the Longhorns would go on a 19-0 run and hold HCU scoreless across the final 11:57 of the first half.
HCU went 0-for-13 over the final 12 minutes of the first period and turned the ball over 10 times. Defense led to offense for the Longhorns, as Shedrick, Ithiel Horton, Mitchell, and Abmas were able to add fastbreak points thanks to those empty possessions to help the Longhorns build a 20-point halftime lead.
HCU found some scoring rhythm in the second half, starting with a layup 52 seconds into the second stanza to snap a 12:49 scoreless stretch. However, the Texas lead never was smaller than 16 points in the final 20 minutes and was at least 20 points across the final 6:39.
Texas held the Huskies scoreless across the final 3:17 as well, continuing the theme of extended scoring droughts for an overmatched HCU.

Texas shot 47 percent from the field but only 29 percent from three. The Longhorns were 7-for-12 from the line, a stat line bolstered by a 7-for-10 showing in the second-half.
The Longhorns did not surrender a dunk. Texas had almost as many points in the paint (48) as HCU had total points. Seventeen of the Longhorns’ 20 made field goals were assisted.
Senior forward Dylan Disu, who hasn’t appeared in a game this year due to a foot injury, was dressed out for the first time all season and participated in pregame warmups. He did not see any action versus HCU.
The Longhorns are off for a week before they travel to Houston to take on LSU in the Halal Guys Showcase at the Toyota Center.
