Jim Schlossnagle was named the new head coach of the Texas Longhorns baseball program on June 25 after decades of success at TCU and Texas A&M, including leading the Aggies to the championship series in the 2024 season. The Longhorns will pay Schlossnagle a pretty penny for his services.

According to an online agenda for the UT System Board of Regents’ upcoming meeting, Schlossnagle agreed to a seven-year contract that keeps him in Austin through the 2031 season. He’s set to be paid $1 million in 2025 and 2026 before his salary balloons to $2.68 million in the 2027 season. He’ll make that much through the life of the deal.

The Longhorns were one of 12 athletic departments paying their head baseball coach over $1 million in 2024. Last season according to Front Office Sports, former head coach David Pierce was set to earn $1.2 million, which was the 10th highest salary in the nation. At Texas A&M, Schlossnagle was reported to have a $1.58 million total compensation 2024.

$2.68 million would be the highest college baseball head coach salary in the NCAA, surpassing the $2.45 million Vanderbilt head coach Tim Corbin made in 2024 according to FOS.

Up to $500,000 in performance incentives are included in Schlossnagle’s contract. A regular season conference championship would earn him $50,000, while a conference tournament title would earn another $50,000.
