Texas tight end Gunnar Helm apparently was injured and played through it during the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine this weekend.

According to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Longhorns tight end sustained an ankle sprain during one of his 40-yard dash attempts on Friday from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Helm had to restart his first 40 run after being called for a false start.

Yet Helm continued to compete, clocking in at 4.93 for his first try and 4.84 on the second. He didn’t tap out of the event, which probably shows more about him than before.

Helm underwent an MRI on Saturday. Crazy enough: He still plans to run the 40 again at the Texas Pro Day.

He snagged 60 passes for 786 yards and seven touchdowns in 2024. Along with his 40 numbers, Helm posted a 30-inch vertical jump and 7.15-second three-cone drill. He also ran a 4.4 in the 20-yard shuttle.
