Texas team notes from Steve Sarkisian's Thursday Zoom call cover Johntay Cook, Andrew Mukuba
Steve Sarkisian went on for about 25 minutes today with media. Usually these calls are only in the 10-15 minute range so there was a good amount to cover. Here are some of the main points.

First off, he confirmed Johntay Cook has left the program and called the decision mutual: “We’ve had some roster movement today with Johntay Cook moving on. We have nothing but respect for he and his family. We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavours.”
More from Sark: “I think we’ve had a really good week of work. I think the bye came at a really good time for us. I appreciated our players’ intent, the urgency, and the energy with which they practiced this week. I felt it all the way up and through today’s practice. They were really flying around.”
On if he simply expects attrition: “I think in this day and age of college football, some of that is natural. We try to really pride ourselves on being a heck of a developmental program. I think we have some living examples on our roster today of guys that maybe weren’t frontline starters in year one or year two, then developed into really productive players in year three or even year four. I try not to fall prey to that, that that’s just what’s going to happen, but I understand when it does happen.”

Sark reiterates some points from IT’s insider notes from last week: “On special teams, one thing that we looked at that we feel very comfortable with is we’re playing more young players and they’re producing. They haven’t been perfect, but they’re producing. We’re trying to be aggressive with our intent of playing more young players on special teams to get them some experience. That’s been good.”
On safety Andrew Mukuba: “I thought Andrew (Mukuba) had a really good practice today. Naturally when you’re out, the goal for us as a coach and the training staff is that you get better each day. We definitely saw that from him today and he was in really good spirits after practice. That was positive.”

Sarkisian on Texas’ playoff standing: He said he and his staff watched the @CFBPlayoff rankings show during a dinner. Then the next morning, he said a “spattering” of players raised their hand when he asked who watched. — “I think so many of our older players know this is way too early to worry about what our ranking is. We need to focus on what we do.”
