Texas has found its replacement for Tashard Choice. The Longhorns are expected to hire West Virginia’s Chad Scott to coach running backs, Inside Texas has learned. Scott, who has been with WVU since 2019, was recently retained by Rich Rodriguez in Morgantown.

Rodriguez said this when electing to keep Scott on staff.

“I have an appreciation and respect for the job that Chad has done here at West Virginia,” Rodriguez said. “He brings a high level of energy and has a history of building relationships and developing players. I look forward to having him as a member of our staff.”

Matt Zenitz was first to report the Longhorns’ interest in Scott.

Scott was interim head coach after the Mountaineers let go of Neal Brown. He coached running backs throughout his entire tenure and was even Brown’s offensive coordinator in 2023 and 2024.

A product of Plant City, Fla., Scott played at both Kentucky and North Carolina during his collegiate career.

In 2023 as offensive coordinator, the Mountaineers featured two backs in Jahiem White and CJ Donaldson who ran for over 790 yards. White rushed 109 times for 842 yards and four scores, averaging 7.7 yards per attempt. Donaldson racked up 798 yards on 171 carries with 11 touchdowns. Another star WVU backs that were under Scott’s tutelage included two-time 1000-yard rusher Leddie Brown.

Prior to West Virginia, Scott had stops at North Carolina, Kentucky, Texas Tech, and Troy. With the Red Raiders from 2010 to 2012, Scott produced an 816 yard rusher in Baron Batch and an 824 yard rusher in Kenny Williams under former TTU head coach Tommy Tuberville.

The hire of Scott leaves no further opening at the assistant coach level on Steve Sarkisian’s staff. He recently hired Mark Orphey to coach in the secondary after Blake Gideon left Texas to take the defensive coordinator role at Georgia Tech
