Texas to host Stanford transfer EDGE David Bailey
Texas is scheduled to host Stanford EDGE transfer David Bailey on Tuesday, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett. Bailey is currently on a visit to Texas Tech and is working to schedule a visit to UCLA.

Bailey was able to enter the portal outside the regular window after the Cardinal fired Troy Taylor last week. A product of Irvine, Calif. who attended powerhouse Mater Dei, Bailey tallied 31 tackles with seven sacks, eight tackles for loss, and five forced fumbles for Stanford in 2024. He has appeared in 33 career games with 16 starts and has 111 tackles, 22.5 tackles for loss, and 14.5 sacks in his three years on The Farm.
Bailey is ranked as the No. 8 player to enter the transfer portal in the 2024-25 cycle. Coming out of high school in 2022, Bailey was the No. 62 overall prospect, the No. 8 EDGE, and the No. 4 player in California in the On3 Industry Ranking. On3 ranked Bailey as the No. 51 overall prospect, the No. 8 EDGE, and the No. 3 player in California.

Bailey was listed at 6-foot-3, 250 pounds by Stanford for the 2024 season. He was the highest-graded player on the Cardinal defense, earning a 90.9 defensive grade and a 93.2 pass-rush grade from Pro Football Focus. He was credited with 26 hurries by PFF. While not a position of glaring need, Texas has one fewer ready-for-action player at Buck after Trey Moore made the move to Will linebacker. Colin Simmons remains at the position and is the likely starter, but behind him are inexperienced players like Zina Umeozulu and Smith Orogbo.

Texas brought in five transfer portal players in the winter window: Cole Brevard, Travis Shaw, Hero Kanu, Brad Spence, and Jack Bouwmeester. The Longhorns’ portal class ranks No. 42 in the nation, according to On3.
