“SEC Championship Game threads update: As the home team, Texas has elected to wear their white jerseys on Saturday. So Georgia will be in their traditional red jerseys worn at home,” a SEC spokesman said.
Texas has worn white uniforms in all but two conference championship games appearance in its history. The Longhorns were the top seed in the Big 12 last year but elected to wear white jerseys and force Oklahoma State to wear dark uniforms. The Cowboys chose to wear black, fitting for a game they lost they lost 49-21.
Texas wore white for the 1999 Big 12 Championship, a game the Longhorns lost to the Nebraska Cornhuskers, 22-6. They also wore white in 2001 when the Colorado Buffaloes defeated the Longhorns 39-37. In 2005 and 2009, the only two conference championship game wins for Texas under Mack Brown, the Longhorns wore their all-white uniforms. Led by Vince Young and Colt McCoy, respectively, both of those teams were able to win conference crowns on their way to playing for a national championship.

The Longhorns have worn their normal home burnt orange for two other conference championship games. In 2018 as the No. 2 seed, Texas wore orange tops even as the road team when Oklahoma decided to deploy a light colored alternate jersey. The Sooners won 39-27 in a rematch of the Red River Shootout and earned a spot in the four-team College Football Playoff.
In 1996 for the first ever Big 12 Championship, Texas and James Brown wore orange tops against the favored Nebraska Cornhuskers. The Longhorns pulled the upset thanks to the famous “Roll Left” play to win the league’s first title.
Georgia will wear their traditional red jerseys, the conference announced. The teams had a similar uniform matchup in 2019 when Texas wore white and Georgia wore red in the 2019 Sugar Bowl. Texas won that contest 28-21.
