Texas trades Van Fillinger and Ty Jordan to Utah for 2020 Frisco Lone Star LB Jaylan Ford and a bowl win to be named later.
Ford, who committed to the Utes in October, was flipped during the second day of the early signing period.
Ian Boyd on the commitment: Ford is more of a true linebacker prospect than Texas has often landed from the high school game. His training and skills revolve around playing in the box, reading flow, beating blocks, and finishing plays. He generates a lot of power easily over short distances and is good at side stepping blockers and bringing down ball carriers.

In the new 4-down defense he’d probably be best as a weakside linebacker that can stay in the box and not get sent into space by flexed out receivers.
Ford is the 17th member of Texas’ 2020 class joining Sawyer Goram-Welch (Longview), DaJon Harrison (Hutto), Troy Omeire (Fort Bend Austin), Xavion Alford (Pearland Shadow Creek), Jerrin Thompson (Lufkin), Bijan Robinson (Salpointe Catholic – AZ), Andrej Karic (Southlake Carroll), Vernon Broughton (Cy-Ridge), Prince Dorbah (Dallas Highland Park), Kitan Crawford (Tyler John Tyler), Ja’Quinden Jackson (Duncanville), Jaden Hullaby (Mansfield Timberview), Jaylen Garth (Port Neches-Groves), Jake Majors (Prosper), Logan Parr (Helotes O’Connor), and Hudson Card (Lake Travis).
