TCU-Texas is not the only intriguing night game this week in the Big 12.

Baylor hosts K-State. Both teams, like Texas, are 6-3, and all three teams have two conference losses.

In all my years covering the Horns, I can’t recall a more even league than this one. And it’s not just at the top of the league either.

West Virginia and Iowa State are both 1-5 in conference play. Yet two weeks ago the Mountaineers took undefeated TCU to the wire and the Cyclones play everyone closely.

One last thought: it’s not outside the realm of possibility that a team with three conference losses ends up in the Big 12 championship game.

If Baylor beats K-State, Texas loses to TCU and then the Horns beat the Bears to end the season, whoever winds up in the championship game opposite the Horned Frogs will have three conference losses.

That’s wild.

What concerns me the most about the TCU game?

It’s the Texas pass defense against the Horned Frogs receivers and QB. If Texas can find a way to limit that, while still being staunch against the run, the odds of a Texas win go up dramatically in my mind.

At the same time, I think a patented fast start by the Horns’ offense is imperative. And then there’s the run game.

Bijan Robinson helped beat the Horned Frogs a year ago. He’s going to be called upon to do so again this year.

Who else is up reporting news at 3:34am other than Gerry Hamilton?

And Gerry’s not one of those late-night guys. He’s waking up that early.

Talk about dedication.

And, in case you missed it, Gerry reported the state’s no. 1 overall prospect for the class of 2024, pass rusher Collin Simmons of Duncanville, will be in Austin for the game this weekend.
