Texas cruised past Louisiana-Monroe in Week 1 before going toe-to-toe with No. 2 Alabama in Week 2. One was a thriller, one was not.

UTSA, on the other hand, has been in two exciting matchups and played in four total overtime periods. The Roadrunners lost at home to Houston in triple overtime to open the season, then topped the Army Black Knights in West Point in single overtime in their most recent outing.

“You turn on the tape and UTSA, they get your attention quickly with their schemes, with their personnel, and the way they play the game,” Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said Monday. Clearly they had a lot of success last season, then they had two really hard-fought games here to start the year.”

Said Longhorn defensive back Anthony Cook: “They’re really good. They had a good team last year, and didn’t lose that many people this year. A worthy opponent, we’ve got a lot of hard practicing to do.”

Both teams current statistical rankings only tell part of the story. The raw numbers offer a little bit more background for both the Longhorns and the Roadrunners.

Texas creamed a cupcake before dueling with a big fish. UTSA played Dana Holgorsen’s modified Air Raid offense before a matchup with a triple-option Army team that masqueraded as an Air Raid team, at least according to the box score.

This feature will reveal more as the year goes on, but with two games down for each, here is the statistical comparison ahead of when both meet for game No. 3.
