Texas WR Matthew Golden honored as East-West Shrine Bowl’s “Texas Star of the Week”
Texas junior wide receiver Matthew Golden was named the East-West Shrine Bowl’s “Texas Star of the Week,” the East-West Shrine Bowl announced Tuesday. Golden played a pivotal role in the Longhorns’ 49-17 win versus Florida on November 9th.

Against Florida, Golden caught three passes for 64 yards and team-high two touchdowns, including a 32-yard diving haul in in the second quarter. Bringing in both of his touchdown receptions in the first half, Golden tied his single-game career high. Golden helped Texas etch out a 7-0 lead with 3:43 remaining in the first quarter after grabbing a 29-yard pass from QB Quinn Ewers for the score. He pulled in his second touchdown reception of the day with 1:19 left in the first half, diving in the front corner of the endzone for the 32-yard catch and putting the Horns up 28-0.

Golden is part of a Texas offense that ranks ninth in total offense (465.2 ypg) and 10th in both scoring offense (38.9 ppg) and passing offense (301.1 ypg). The Klein (Texas) Cain product and former Houston Cougars pass-catcher that transferred to Texas last Spring has started all nine games, snaring 27 passes for 396 yards (14.67 ypc) and six touchdowns. Golden leads the team in touchdown receptions while ranking second on the squad in receptions and third in receiving yards. His six touchdown receptions are the fifth most in the SEC.

Golden and No. 3/3/5 Texas hit the road to Fayetteville, Ark., to take on the Arkansas Razorbacks at 11 a.m. CT Saturday, Nov. 16, inside Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. The game will air on ABC with Joe Tessitore (play-by-play), Jesse Palmer (analyst) and Katie George (sideline) on the call.
