Redshirt freshman wide receiver Troy Omeire will undergo knee surgery and will miss the remainder of the 2021 season, Steve Sarkisian announced on Thursday. Omeire, who tore the ACL in his right knee in a non-contact injury during preseason camp in 2020, has yet to play a snap at Texas.

Omeire was injured during the Longhorns’ open practice at Darrell K Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium on August 18.

In an attempt to go for a deep ball, Troy Omeire must have landed awkwardly and was slow to get up. He walked off under his own power, but is going back to the locker room with a trainer after a discussion with Andre Coleman.

Omeire was a full participant during preseason camp until that point. He has been ruled out of each of Texas’ first four games.

“We’ll do everything in our power to get him healthy, get him back going on the field, and get him going for the 2022 season,” Sarkisian said Thursday.

Omeire was a non-contact participant during Sarkisian’s first spring as head coach of the Longhorns earlier this year.
