The title of Eric’s article yesterday evening was spot on.
We’re not in Kansas anymore.
The 2024 home schedule includes Florida and Georgia, two nationally respected universities and football programs.
The road schedule includes a reunion of rivalries with Texas A&M and Arkansas, as well as a game in Nashville against Vanderbilt.
And that’s not to mention that little tilt in Dallas with the Sooners or the early season made-for-TV match-up with Michigan in Ann Arbor.
Even during the Big 12, when both Nebraska and Colorado were nationally rated programs, the Horns never had the number of quality opponents they will see in 2024.
So here’s my ultimate thought:
Next season will be the most interesting, best overall schedule Texas has EVER played.
EVER.
I know that’s a mouthful considering the long, storied history of the Longhorn football program, but Michigan, Florida, Georgia, to go along with Oklahoma, A&M and Arkansas, all in a single season, is just nothing short of astounding.

At the same time, the focus must be on 2023, not 2024.
The difficulty of that schedule in 2024 tells me it’s even more important for Texas to execute and improve in 2023.
The Horns not only need to up the ante talent-wise in the SEC, they must mentally step up their game, too. Or the Horns will just end up like the Aggies.

That means fewer mistakes, better, more precise execution on offense and special teams. And more physical play across the board.
Let 2023 be the year where Texas truly begins the transformation of its program, and says farewell to the Big 12 (and Kansas) the right way.
