The Texas Longhorns certainly survived and advanced once again Saturday with a spot in the Big 12 Championship now in clear sight.

The same can’t be said for Oklahoma. The Sooners now need help after losing the final Bedlam game Saturday to Oklahoma State.

Mike Gundy continues to prove he is as good of a coach as the conference has seen on a consistent basis. Left for dead following a 33-7 blowout loss to South Alabama and a 34-27 loss in Ames to Iowa State, the Cowboys have run off five wins in a row in conference play to take control of their Big 12 Championship Game destiny.

Inside Texas takes a look at the Big 12 standings after the weekend that was and offers a look ahead at next week’s schedule.

Notes from the weekend games

Oklahoma State won the last Bedlam game 27-24 over Oklahoma. Former Euless Trinity High standout Ollie Gordon continues to make a run at the Doak Walker Award with 137 yards and two touchdowns. Gordon leads the Big 12 in rushing with 1,224 yards and has crossed the goal line 12 times. Former Texas Tech quarterback Alan Bowman hit on 28 of 42 passes for 334 yards.

Texas Tech beat TCU 35-38 Thursday night. This game is mentioned because the Longhorns will play at TCU November 11 in control of their own Big 12 destiny. TCU quarterback Josh Hoover completed 32 of 52 passes for 353 yards and one TD with 2 INTs in the loss. The Horned Frogs put up 440 yards of offense and surrendered 438 to the Red Raiders. Behren Morton returned at quarterback for Texas Tech. Senior running back Tahj Brooks went over 1,000 yards on the season for the Red Raiders in the win.

No. 21 Kansas beat Iowa State 28-21. Iowa State limited Kansas to 361 yards of offense, but the Cyclones only mustered up 333 yards against the Jayhawks.

Houston 25, Baylor 24 in overtime.

West Virginia 37, BYU 7.

UCF 28, Cincinnati 26.

Week 11 Big 12 Schedule

Oklahoma State remaining schedule

at UCF – November 11

at Houston – November 18

vs. BYU – November 25

Note: Oklahoma State would most likely have to lose two of three to not make the Big 12 Championship game due to tie breaking wins over Kansas, Kansas State and Oklahoma. The only way the Cowboys could get left out is if they dropped one game, and Iowa State won out. The Cyclones remaining games are at BYU, vs. Texas and at Kansas State.
