It’s a good time to be a Texas Longhorn, and it could get even better on Sunday.

A number of Texas athletics programs have either earned pivotal wins or heard fantastic news about their futures.
From the football perspective, details behind head coach Steve Sarkisian‘s new contract were revealed. It’s a contract that gives him a significant raise and keeps him in Austin until 2031. Additionally, Jeff Banks and Johnny Nansen received new deals to keep critical parts of Sarkisian’s staff on the 40 Acres.
Vic Schaefer also received a contract extension on Saturday, with his contract set to keep him at Texas through 2030 pending UT Board of Regents approval.
Sunday is a massive day for Schaefer as the No. 3 Texas Longhorns are hosting the No. 5 LSU Tigers at 2 p.m. in the Moody Center. The Longhorns will have a national audience as ABC is set to air the contest.
The Longhorns hope to keep winning ways that began on Friday. Both track programs posted quality results during the Tiger Paw Invitational at Clemson and the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston. Eva Jess set a school record in the indoor 5k with a 15:44.48.
That kickstarted a great day for Longhorn athletics, including a smashmouth day for the softball program. No. 2 Texas run-ruled the Maryland Terrapins in the Bevo Classic before knocking off the No. 8 Texas Tech Red Raiders. Texas’ Teagan Kavan out-dueled Texas Tech’s NiJaree Canady, the reigning collegiate player of the year, as part of a 2-1 win. No. 3 men’s tennis did their part, knocking off the No. 14 Texas A&M Aggies at the National Team Indoor Championship in Dallas.
The only Friday blemish was an extra-inning loss for Texas baseball against Louisville, but they more than made up for it on Saturday as part of another significant day for the Longhorns.
Men’s tennis moved on to the national semifinals thanks to a win over Virginia.
Softball won two more games in the Bevo Classic, defeating UMass and Maryland.
Men’s basketball won 82-78 over Kentucky in thrilling fashion, with Tre Johnson and Tramon Mark powering Texas past the No. 15 Wildcats.

Finally, new Texas head coach Jim Schlossnagle earned his first win leading the Longhorns with a statement run-rule win over the Ole Miss Rebels.
Sunday has a chance to be just as good, starting with a rematch versus Texas Tech in softball at 12:30 p.m. on SEC Network+.
Then, Schaefer’s crew welcomes Kim Mulkey and the Tigers to the Moody Center, and the Tigers could enter shorthanded.
Finally, Schlossnagle and company cap the day facing former Big 12 rival Oklahoma State at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
