Director’s Cup: “We’re baaaack!”

For the fourth time in five years, the Texas Longhorns are Directors’ Cup Champions. In the immortal words of Ricky Bobby’s son: “I don’t even know what that means, but I love it!”

Congratulations to Chris Del Conte and all of the folks on The 40 Acres who have made Texas the best athletic department in the whole country. It’s also a chance to laugh at ACC powerhouse Stanford, who previously dominated the Directors’ Cup because they had sports like squash, lightweight rowing and fencing.

The transformation of the department speaks to the unity on campus. Though there will always be challenges and difficulties in a massive public institution like Texas, it’s incredible how aligned everything is. When I was on campus from 2009-2012, all the parts of campus felt very boxed off from one another: academics, athletics, even the individual sports. Nothing felt aligned. Now the various aspects of the University seem to be in lockstep with one another. Put your Horns up for that.

Oh, Indeed: Omar and The NBA Finals

Friday night was what I call an Omar game in The NBA Finals. Omar Little, the iconic vigilante of HBO’s The Wire once said “you come at the king, you best not miss.” And the Indiana Pacers had their shot at the Thunder… and missed. A 3-1 lead in The Finals was in sight with them up 86-76 going into the fourth quarter. But after that 10 point lead the Pacers did essentially nothing right and Shai Gilgeous Alexander made sure the Thunder left Indianapolis with the series tied 2-2.

‘Cruitin

Official visits heated up all around the country, especially in the SEC. Look at this video of Wide Receiver Tristen Keys’ visit to Knoxville for proof. Keys is committed to LSU by the way. Inside Texas will have nonstop coverage of how the Longhorns weekend went, stay tuned.

Clairvoyant Bill

A massive MLB trade occurred over the weekend as the Boston Red Sox dealt Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants. The Red Sox owners continue to try to recreate the curse that plagued the franchise for 86 years. Here’s Clairvoyant Bill Simmons from 2022.

Dad Strength at The US Open

JJ Spaun had 150-1 odds to win the US Open before the tournament started. Before he emerged onto the Open’s leaderboard, I didn’t even know who he was. Frankly, the only Spawn I knew was the god awful 90’s film with Michael Jai White. But the 34 year old golfer didn’t let the long odds or a child’s stomach virus deny him the chance to become a champion on Father’s Day.
