Thirty-seven Longhorns heading to Paris to compete in the Olympics

Thirty current or former Longhorn athletes and seven coaches with ties to UT will participate in the upcoming Olympics in Paris, the school announced Wednesday. The 30 heading to France to compete is a school record according to the school, topping the 29 sent to Tokyo for the most recent Olympics.

Twelve Longhorn sports programs, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, men’s golf, women’s golf, rowing, soccer, men’s swimming and diving, women’s swimming and diving, women’s tennis, men’s track and field, women’s track and field, and volleyball, will be represented.

Sixteen different countries will be represented: Canada, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Great Britain, Haiti, Hungary, Ireland, Jamaica, Netherlands, New Zealand, St. Lucia, Serbia, South Sudan, Taiwan, and the USA. Fourteen athletes and three coaches will represent the USA.

Some of the notable athletes include Tara Davis-Woodhall, Julien Alfred, Drew Kibler, Aaron Shackell, Kevin Durant, Chiaka Ogbogu, Scottie Scheffler, Julia Grosso, and Lulu Sun.

Texas coaches Carol Capitani, Matt Scoggin, Erik Sullivan, Bob Bowman, Royal Ivey, Edrick Floréal, and Jim Garnham will coach various countries during the games. Longhorns have won 89 gold medals, 43 silvers, and 24 bronzes at the Olympics.
