Transfer Portal: Intriguing names that jumped in on day one of the window
The NCAA transfer portal officially opened up on Monday to all FBS players, not just the ones who were grad transfers or in a program that had its head coach removed.

Almost 1000 players entered the transfer portal on Monday. Some were notable, some were previously announced, and some were players nobody knew of prior to entering the transfer portal.
Texas issued one transfer portal offer on Monday to Wake Forest defensive back Gavin Holmes. There should be more to follow as other players from around the country hit the portal and Texas does its due diligence on players it believes it needs.
Here is the first list of intriguing names who announced their intent to enter the portal last week. Below is a list of names, some possible repeats, who appeared in the portal today.
Gavin Holmes, DB, Wake Forest
A native of Metairie, La. who attended Archbishop Rummel, Holmes had a 66.3 overall defensive grade from Pro Football Focus this season.
Devin Neal, DB, Baylor
Three-year player for the Baylor defense, had 42 tackles, 2.0 TFL, and 1.0 sacks this year along with 2 interceptions.
Jeremiah Jean-Baptiste, LB, UCF
Fourth-year linebacker with 152 career tackles including 5.0 for loss and one sack this season.
Spencer Holstege, OL, Purdue
Starting guard for the Big 10 West champions. Originally from Michigan.
Bram Walden, OL, Oregon
Consensus top 100 prospect from Arizona, originally had a Texas offer as a high school recruit.
Devin Leary, QB, NC State
Was the starting quarterback for the Wolfpack before sustaining an injury midway through the year that ended his 2022 campaign. He had 1,265 yards with 11 TD passes and four interceptions in six games this year prior to getting hurt.
Xavion Alford, DB, USC
Former Texas defensive back who transferred to USC ahead of the 2021 season. Originally from Pearland.
Myles Jones, CB, Texas A&M
Looking for a new home for his mythic seventh year in college football
Dont’e Thornton, WR, Oregon
Caught 17 balls for 366 yards and one score this season. Originally from Maryland.
Austin Stogner, TE, South Carolina
Former OU tight end who ventured to South Carolina to play with Spencer Rattler for Shane Beamer.
Amari Gainer, LB, Florida State
A redshirt senior, Gainer played in 45 games at Florida State with 18 starts, logging 210 tackles, 19.0 tackles for a loss, 6.0 sacks, five forced fumbles and two passes defended.

Dasan McCullough, LB, Indiana
Consensus top 100 linebacker who chose to stay home and play for the Hoosiers… for one season.
Michael Furtney, OL, Wisconsin
Started eight games for the Badgers at guard this season.
Dominic Lovett, WR, Missouri
Caught 56 passes for 846 yards and 3 touchdowns this season.
Ralen Goforth, LB, USC
Fourth-year LB who had 103 tackles over the past two seasons.
Teradja Mitchell, LB, Ohio State
Had 45 tackles including 4.5 for loss in 2021. Utilizing his COVID year for one more ride.
Kendarin Ray, S, Tulsa
Starting defensive back from Brenham who had 86 tackles and 3.0 for loss plus an interception this season. 221 tackles in his career.
Tony Grimes, CB, North Carolina
Former five-star defensive back who visited Texas during his recruitment.
Jonathan McGill, DB, Stanford
Texas native who appeared in 32 games for the Cardinal. Tallied 51 tackles with 5.5 for loss and one sack this season, plus one interception.
Antonio Grier, LB, USF
Two-time second-team All-AAC. Played in three games in 2022, but had 21 tackles with 0.5 TFL. Had hand injury and death in the immediate family that caused him to miss rest of season.
Grant Dubose, WR, Charlotte
Has caught 126 passes for 1684 yards and 15 touchdowns over two seasons with the 49ers.
Andrew Armstrong, WR, Texas A&M-Commerce
6-foot-6, 189-pounder from Dallas (Texas) Bishop Dunne. Had 62 catches for 1020 yards and 13 touchdowns in DII.
Levani Damuni, LB, Stanford
161 total tackles over the past two seasons for the Cardinal, including 8.5 for loss and 3 sacks plus an interception.
