Tre Johnson named one of On3's top performers at the McDonald's All-American Game week
On3 national basketball recruiting analyst Jamie Shaw was in Houston for the week of festivities surrounding the McDonald’s All-American Game and he named Five-Star Plus+ shooting guard and Texas signee Tre Johnson as one of the event’s top participants based on performances in practices, scrimmages, and the game itself.

Johnson was Shaw’s No. 7 overall performer. The On3 MVP was Rutgers signee Dylan Harper.
Johnson, a prolific shooter, may have saved his best performance for last. In the game, Johnson scored 17 points and shot 5-for-7 from three. He also had four rebounds and three assists.
Here’s what Shaw had to say about Johnson’s performance.
Tre Johnson has a unique ability to create an advantage with the ball in the half-court. His footwork and balance are excellent, able to get his defender off balance and find the space to rise up and knock down a shot from multiple levels.
Typically an off-ball guard, Johnson played well on the ball here. He showed he could get the ball into the front court under pressure and get the ball to its spots without turning it over. There are questions over his defense, but he showed a full offensive arsenal here throughout the week. Certainly showing to be the top shooter in the event, for this week.
Johnson became the 23rd player in Texas men’s basketball history to play in the contest. The official X account of the program highlighted some of Johnson’s best plays from Tuesday night.
Johnson, who led Lake Highlands to the 2023 UIL 6A state championship, transferred to Link Academy in Branson, Mo. for his senior season. He earned Missouri Player of the Year honors from MaxPreps and led Link Academy to a 25-6 record.

He averaged 15.5 points, 3.6 assists, and 3.3 rebounds per game while shooting nearly 40 percent from three and 91 percent from the line.
Johnson drew praise from Shaw throughout the week, including following Monday’s practice.
Tre Johnson has built his reputation as a scorer, a true bucket-getter who can create for himself or play off others,” Shaw wrote Monday. “Today, Johnson made shots. He has deep range on the shot. The release was smooth and the balance was consistent. Speaking of his balance, that is one of the things that make him such an intriguing scorer, along with his footwork. He is able to get to his spots, create space, and get clean looks consistently in the half-court. He will need to continue adding weight, which will help with his base and balance off movement. Today was better for him than yesterday as he looked like the best shooter in the gym.
Johnson is ranked as the No. 5 overall prospect, the No. 2 shooting guard, and the No. 1 player in Missouri in the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking, a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services.
Johnson, Cam Scott, and Nic Codie make up Texas’ eighth-ranked 2024 signing class.
