Trey Moore... just the facts
There’s a lot of expertise on the Inside Texas Members Only message board. Texas fans that call Inside Texas home include several who have been around the game of football plenty and know what good play looks like even if it doesn’t always reveal itself in the stat sheet. Hornfish is a great example of this IT quality.

Hornfish looked into Trey Moore‘s play from the ULM game. Moore arrived with lofty expectations, but thus far has seven tackles to his name. None have occurred in the backfield.
Cause for concern? Not according to Hornfish. Here’s his detailed analysis of Moore’s performance against the Warhawks.
I’ve seen some consternation about Moore and his lack of splash plays for our defense so I decided to actually look at his tape for ULM to see how he performed. He was credited with one tackle in the ULM game in 24 snaps. I only charted 23, so I don’t know what happened to the last one.
He obviously hasn’t made the splash plays yet as he has yet to be credited with a TFL or a sack, but from charting the ULM game… he’s been very good at his job of playing the EDGE for us (at least in this contest). He is excellent at setting an edge, has fantastic play recognition, shows to be much stronger against larger guys than I would have imagined as he constantly moves them where he wants with quality hand placement, technique and strength. I’m sure those that matter appreciate his work.
Here’s my chart of his plays from ULM. His first play was his worst play and wasn’t really that bad:
Play 1: Bit on the handoff fake, lost contain on roll-out. Minimal gain on pass.
Play 2: Set the edge like a beast, teammates cleaned.
Play 3: Doubled teemed then chased after getting away. Hill sack
Play 4: Run away from him, flowed backside
Play 5: Two-man game with Gbenda, took inside Gbenda outside. Hill INT, flagged ridiculously for a block in the back on the return. Dude turned his back to Moore at the last second.
Play 6: Run away from him.
Play 7: Good pressure on QB, disrupted pass in the flat to the back.
Play 8: Dip under the OL. Quality move and would have gotten the QB but give-up handoff on 3rd and long.
Play 9: Good eyes. Sealed off the backside of the play that the RB was looking for.
Play 10: Decent collapse of his edge on 4th and 2. If Mukuba fills aggressively, 4th down is stopped. They get it by a yard.
Play 11: Held up well on his edge. Medium gain up the middle.
Play 12: Good hold on his edge. Play away from him.
Play 13: Feigns a rush, rollout to opposite side.
Play 14: Rollout opposite side, flows down the line. Sack by Lefau.
Play 15: Ineffective rush, PBU Muhammad.

Play 16: Quickly beats man, realizes RB threat, neutralizes.
Play 17: Spin move inside on rush. OL slows him with an extended arm.
Play 18: Excellent setting of the edge. Ball went opposite though.
Play 19: Starts upfield, recognized the swing pass to his side, causes a poor throw by getting in the lane.
Play 20: Drops into coverage in the flat. Qb starts to run to his side. Pressures into another poor pass.
Play 21: Spies QB, run is away from him.
Play 22: Sets his edge, run is away…yet again.
Play 23: Decent move on the pass rush. Quick throw, though. Pass batted on the interior.
