T'Vondre Sweat becomes the 24th unanimous All-American in UT's history
Thanks to first-team All-American honors from the American Football Coaches Association, Texas defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat became the 24th Longhorn to reach unanimous All-American status. He’s earned first-team nods from all five major selectors: the AFCA, the Football Writers Association of America, the Associated Press, the Walter Camp Football Foundation, and the Sporting News.

Sweat, who also became the fourth Outland Trophy winner in the history of the program, is the fifth defensive tackle to earn unanimous All-American honors along with Scott Appleton (1963), Brad Shearer (1977), Steve McMichael (1979), and Kenneth Sims. He’s the sixth defensive lineman to reach that status and first since Brian Orakpo in 2008.
The AFCA also named Xavier Worthy a second-team All-American as an all purpose player, and Kelvin Banks a second-team All-American as an offensive lineman.
Sweat recorded 42 tackles, 17 of them solo, with eight tackles for loss, two sacks, four pass breakups, and a blocked kick that was returned for two points at Iowa State. He also recorded a touchdown reception in the Longhorns’ Big 12 Championship win over Oklahoma State.

Worthy, who also was honored as a second-team All-American by the FWAA and the Sporting News and received a third-team bid by the AP, returned 20 punts for 358 yards. He was second in the nation in punt return average at 17.9 yards per return. He also brought a punt back to the end zone for a touchdown against BYU.
Banks, a sophomore, earned the first All-American honors of his career. He helped an offensive line that was a Joe Moore Award semifinalist clear the way for 1000-yard rusher Jonathon Brooks. Banks was a first-team All-Big 12 selection by the league’s coaches.

The Longhorns take on the Washington Huskies on January 1 in the Sugar Bowl as part of the College Football Playoff.
