With three NCAA recognized selectors bestowing first-team recognition upon Sweat, he is now a consensus All-American. Should the American Football Coaches Association and the Sporting News name Sweat a first-team All-American, the senior from Huntsville would become the 24th Longhorn to earn unanimous All-American recognition.
In addition to Sweat, defensive tackle Byron Murphy was a second-team AP All-American and Xavier Worthy was added to the AP’s third team as an all-purpose player.
Sweat recorded 42 tackles including 8.0 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks. He had four passes defended and blocked an extra point versus Iowa State. Sweat even got involved in the Longhorn offense, catching a touchdown from a goal line set in the Big 12 Championship versus Oklahoma State.

Murphy, who played alongside Sweat as part of the most dominant defensive tackle tandem in the nation, recorded 26 tackles this season with 8.0 for loss and 5.0 sacks. He also scored a touchdown via a reception against Wyoming, joining a short list of lineman to score an offensive touchdown at Texas.
Worthy, a junior from Fresno, Calif., was often electric on the Longhorns’ punt return team. He brought back 20 kicks for 358 yards, averaging 17.9 per return. He even brought back a punt for a touchdown against BYU. In addition to his exploits on special teams, Worthy has caught 73 passes for 969 yards and five scores.
