The 6-foot-0.5 Hunter started all 38 games for Longhorns this season during their NCAA Tournament run to the Elite Eight. Hunter averaged 10.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game, including 11 points per game in four NCAA Tournament games.

Hunter began his college career at Iowa State, where he was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Year following the 2021-22 season. The Racine, Wis. native led the Cyclones to the Sweet 16 that season averaging 11.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game.

Hunter has made strides as a perimeter shooter from year one to year two in college basketball. After shooting 27.4% from three with 37 makes as a freshman, he improved to 33.7% with 56 makes this past season. That improvement shooting the ball also showed at the free throw line, where he improved from 68.7% to 80.0% in year two.

The return of Hunter gives the Longhorns what again figures to be a potent backcourt. Hunter joins Oral Roberts transfer and scoring machine Max Abmas and Texas-Arlington transfer guard Chendall Weaver to give Rodney Terry and staff three talented guards. The Longhorns will now look to add a fourth and final guard to the roster through the portal for the 2023-24 season.

Needs remaining for Texas

The Longhorns have added some huge pieces to the puzzle in the transfer portal. Along with Abmas and Weaver, Terry and staff have signed big men Kadin Shedrick and Ze’rik Onyema. The big men combined with the return of Dylan Disu will provide the Longhorns with an improved front court in terms of height and length.

In addition to one more guard, the Texas staff would like to add a big wing or versatile forward with perimeter capability.
