The Warhawks will enter DKR this Saturday night with a record of 2-0, that includes a big upset over UAB two weeks ago. This past week, the Warhawks were on a bye. The program, led by first-year head coach Bryant Vincent, will be on a bit of a high with the way the season has started. Vincent has even found himself as somewhat of a media darling after the 32-6 win over UAB. Not only was UAB favored, Vincent was UAB’s interim head coach in 2022 and led the Blazers to a 7-6 record. Rather than hiring Vincent, UAB hired (Super Bowl winner!) Trent Dilfer who is off to a rather old school Tampa Bay Buccaneer 5-10 start in Birmingham.

Vincent spent the 2023 season as the offensive coordinator at the University of New Mexico.

Here’s a tidy little video about his unique path.

Vincent knows offensive football and it appears he knows program management after working under a successful Bill Clark at UAB for a number of years.

He started his Monday press conference by stating it’s time to flip the page to Texas

“It’s a team that is, has a chance to legitimately win a National Championship. They’re one of the teams in the conversation. They’re coached extremely well. They’re big, they’re long, they’re powerful, they’re experienced. Our team, we’re excited to for the challenge. This is going to be our first road game as a team. I don’t know if there’s a better way to go out there and get prepared and go play a team like Texas on the road that will prepare us as we move into conference play.”

What it means to get to play the No. 1 team in the country

“It’s very exciting, what an opportunity. Our players get the opportunity to go in front of over 100,000 and play the No. 1 team in the country. Our players are excited about that opportunity. I promise you this, our locker room and this building we’re not scared of this opportunity, we’re excited about this opportunity. Let’s go get on this stage and see where we’re at as a program.”

On Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning

“I think they’re both two NFL quarterbacks. I really do. I think Arch…you know the thing I respect about Arch, he came in and he understood that he was a true freshman and he was behind Ewers and he just developed. He developed and he grew. When you do that, and you get your opportunity like he did, then that’s when you make the most of your opportunity. I think that’s kind of a little bit lost in college football today, is earning your way and deserving your way. He came out and I think accounted for five touchdowns and entered the Heisman race as a backup coming off to replace the starter.”
