We saw the grizzly bear on the field on his way to winning the Outland Trophy but here’s evidence of T’Vondre Sweat’s teddy bear side.

It’s always touching when an athlete uses his first paycheck to take care of the people who took care of him along the way, but I die a little inside when they spend $120k on a new car. A new house on the other hand is an entirely different investment. It’s a sound financial investment as well as an investment in family. The house will assuredly be full as family and friends watch Sweat play throughout his career.

Sweat’s tweet acknowledging his mother and the new purchase is a reminder of hard work paying off. By his own admission, and many of our insider reports, the fire to maximize as a player didn’t always burn hot inside him. There was even a point when we wondered if he might transfer from Texas. That seems impossible to imagine after his last two seasons in burnt orange.

After a solid 2022, 2023 was a special season for Sweat. He surprised many with his decision to return to Texas but it sure paid off. That decision underlined how much he matured in Austin.

Sweat was the most dominant defensive tackle in the nation last season, and that includes his teammate and first-round draft pick Byron Murphy, Deone Walker at Kentucky, and Michigan’s dynamic duo that Texas fans will see up close in a little over a month.

He may have slipped a little bit in the draft, going 38th overall to the Tennessee Titans, but it’s a good landing spot for the 6-foot-4, 360+ pound defensive tackle.

Following his selection, Sweat signed a 4 year, $9,552,440 contract including $3,767,228 signing bonus, $7,926,795 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $2,388,110.

Not bad for the three-star kid from Huntsville.
