If Quinn Ewers finished the No. 5 Texas Longhorns’ game versus Florida 17-for-25 for 297 yards and four touchdowns, most fans of Steve Sarkisian‘s program would have been overjoyed. Thanks to quality play from Ewers and elite play-calling from Sarkisian, Ewers put that stat line together in the first half.

Texas entered halftime up 35-0 thanks to a scintillating start from the Longhorn offense where Ewers found Matthew Golden for two touchdowns plus a scoring toss to both Quintrevion Wisner and Gunnar Helm.

And there are good arguments to be made that Ewers’ statline could have been gaudier if it weren’t for a handful of poor throws and dropped passes.

TD 1: Quinn Ewers to Matthew Golden for a 29-yard score

Ewers hits a wide open Golden to start the scoring for the Longhorns. Two Texas backs sprinting to the field draw the attention of the safety and nickel, and Golden’s switch route finds nothing but green grass and the end zone for the first score.

TD 2: Quinn Ewers to Gunnar Helm for a 22-yard score

Sometimes, it’s just that easy. Ewers hits a wide open Helm, who was left totally uncovered. Helm waltzes into the end zone and puts the Longhorns up two scores, an advantage that has proven to be more than enough for the Texas defense this season.

Helm finished the first half with three catches for 42 yards and a touchdown.

TD 3: Quinn Ewers to Quintrevion Wisner for a 50-yard score

Sarkisian and company have been running this screen throughout his entire Texas tenure, yet the Florida Gators failed to adjust. Wisner hauls in the pass then follows blocks from Kelvin Banks, Jake Majors, Cole Hutson, and Helm to the end zone and into Smokey the Cannon’s blast.

Wisner finished the first half with three catches for 59 yards and a score. He had three rushes for zero yards.

TD 4: Quinn Ewers to Matthew Golden for a 32-yard score

Golden comes up clutch for his quarterback on this throw. Ewers’ throw wasn’t perfect, but Golden manages to adjust his body and haul in the pass to put the Longhorns up four scores in the first half.

Golden entered halftime with three catches for 64 yards and two touchdowns.

Ewers could have had other scoring tosses had a trio of passes all intended for DeAndre Moore not fallen incomplete. Varying levels of blame could go to either player, but the play ended with the ball hitting the turf either way.

Texas gained 353 yards in the first half, but the defense is worthy of praise as well. The Longhorns shut out the Aidan Warner led offense, limiting the Gators to only 138 yards in the first half.

Texas added one more score via a Jaydon Blue rush. Ewers was responsible for the other four.
