It was a great start for the No. 2 Texas Longhorns, until Quinn Ewers got hurt. Then Arch Manning entered and contributed with five touchdowns in his first real extended action as the Horns topped UTSA, 56-7. The kids were nice: Ryan Wingo, Johntay Cook, Colin Simmons. Then former lacrosse star Ethan Burke added a pick-six to cap the evening. Here’s what the players said following UT’s win and first night game of 2024.

Ryan Wingo, WR

ON HIS CONNECTION WITH ARCH MANNING:

“We have a great connection, like you said, we practice together a lot. We’ve been playing together since February, so we’ve got a good connection. You really got to like everything about him as a
quarterback. You saw his long, long run today. We got a lot of wonderful opportunities from him in the game.”

ON HIS BIG PLAY MAKING ABILITY:

“I try to just make the best out of every opportunity I get whenever I get on the field because I can’t take anything for granted. Obviously, I just can’t take anything for granted. So being able to just make
the plays when they come to me, it’s the biggest thing for me.”

Alfred Collins, DL

ON THE DEFENSE’S EFFORT THROUGH THE FIRST THREE GAMES:

“We’ve just showed our physicality and our grit. It all starts during the week, how we practice, and it shows on Saturdays. We’re a very deep defense, and there’s no fall off anywhere at any position, and
it just shows the hard work and details we take seriously, so during the week we see that.”

Jahdae Barron, DB

ON WHO STOOD OUT DEFENSIVELY FOR TEXAS:

“I’m gonna have to give it to Colin Simmons and Ethan Burke. Love the performance Colin (Simmons) came with and Ethan Burke. I mean, he (Ethan) made the play of the game. We talked about getting
the ball and getting that sword, putting that sword in the air. He did something today that everybody needed, and we need a turnover every day. We need a turnover every game. Big hats off to him. He got
the play of the game.”

ON YOUNGER PLAYERS COMING IN AND MAKING BIG PLAYS:

“No, I’m telling you, big hats off to all of the coaching staff, just the way they recruit and the way we bring talent in, and then the way they develop talent. I mean, they do a tremendous job. I truly mean
it, if you want to be developed and be a better person on and off the field, I say come to the University of Texas. They built me into a better person, a better man, and they’re bringing all these young guys,
and you can see the talent and the growth that they’re having from a physical standpoint. Shout out to Coach Becton. From a physical standpoint, I put on the body weight and things like that. This is a
tremendous staff all around. Shout out to those guys who come here and want to be developed.”
