Steve Sarkisian’s opening statement: “First of all, tremendous atmosphere today. Longhorn nation was amazing again, and I thought it was a great send off for our seniors, you know, to honor them before the game, and then to have this be in their lasting memory. And DKR was a special moment for a lot of those guys, and couldn’t be happier for them, and obviously the appreciation for them and what they’ve done for this program, and continue to do, as we stay on the mission that we’re on. As far as the ball game, I thought our defense had another tremendous game.

Think about, six sacks in the ball game, more interceptions, that’s 17 on the year now. I thought that they did a great job, especially there in the third quarter with a couple of the sudden changes, with the turnovers and keeping Kentucky out of the end zone. They force the missed field goal, they get the fourth down stop. And then, I thought offensively, really efficient first half, I thought our guys played tremendous. And then in the third quarter, it was like we just couldn’t hold onto the ball. So clearly, we need to address that aspect of our game. But I thought the response offensively there in the fourth quarter, eight minutes and I think 22 seconds, 15-play drive, 15-straight runs, was definitely a culture attitude drive. Obviously the combination of Tre Wisner and Jaydon Blue, but I thought Tre had a fantastic game, and that guy’s tough as nails.

And so again, sometimes you got to pivot, like we’ve talked about before. You got to adjust, and sometimes you got to adjust on the fly. And I felt like we need to get the ball in his hands, and we need to run it. We need to lean on our offensive line and tight ends and having the ability to run it when they know you’re going to run it is critical, and we were able to do that for 250 yards. So proud of our guys. Back-to-back, 10-win seasons for us again. More work to do. As we said, the mission continues, and we’ve got a big ball game next week in College Station.

On the offensive line: “Yeah, I thought the offensive line was really good on the ground all day. From the very beginning, I thought we re-established the line of scrimmage, we moved the line of scrimmage, some great running lanes for the runners, and then we went and really leaned on that obviously there in the fourth quarter.”

On senior day: “Well, I think it’s great. A lot of those faces, whether it was Jake (Majors) and Hayden (Conner) and what they were doing and a lot of third-year players too. There’s a lot of veteran guys on our defensive front and a lot of veteran guys on our defense in general and so I’m happy for all those guys that that again, we’re a mature team that way and those older players are bringing our young guys along pretty rapidly, because there’s a standard of which they they come to work every day and put forth the right effort but also the connectivity that this team has.”
