Here’s what the players said after the win and first 5-0 start since 2009.
Quinn Ewers, QB
ON THE QUARTERBACK RUSHING ATTACK:
“It definitely boosted my confidence a little bit in that aspect of my game. But yeah, the run game was definitely alive today. (Was it a part of the plan?) No, not at all. But sometimes just got to make plays. If I need to run every now and then, I’ll feel comfortable doing that.”
ON TEXAS RB JONATHON BROOKS PERFORMANCE:
“You know, give a lot of credit to our offensive line. But definitely Jonathan was able to find the creases in the defense and he hit him with speed and it’s pretty cool to see.”
WHERE IS THIS TEAM HEADING INTO THE OKLAHOMA GAME?
“I think we proved a lot to ourselves and obviously they OU is a great team. I know we’re pretty fired up to go to Dallas, and you know, play in that rich traditional game. I couldn’t be more fired up. I mean, there’s always room to improve, especially going into a rivalry game like this. I think we did a really good job converting on big third downs but still we need to work on one-on-ones when we cross that 30-yard line. We need to need to put the ball in the paint.”
ON ADONAI MITCHELL’S CAREER GAME:
“Yeah, it’s definitely awesome having him on our team this year. You know, they [Worthy and Mitchell] correlate with each other. So when one is getting doubled, the other one is gonna be open, and vice versa. So it’s cool.”
Jonathon Brooks, RB
HOW CONFIDENT IS THE TEAM FOR OU:
“I think we’re really confident. Just we’ve been winning in versatile ways. We can run the ball, pass the ball, and like I’ve been saying, our defense is playing really well. So I think just the faith and the confidence we have in each other.”
WHAT DID IT MEAN TO GET 217 YARDS RUSHING:
“It means a lot. I trust the O-line. I trusted to call it we went to work this week in practice and we really honed in on finishing blocks and finishing runs. And just making that impact like you know saying is something to focus on.”
Adonai Mitchell, WR
ON HOW HE AND XAVIER WORTHY HELP EACH OTHER:
“I’m not gonna lie, it’s crazy like how much attention he gets and how the defense just has to respect who he is. So you know I feel like when that happens, that opens up opportunities for not just me but JT, the running backs like that. It just that just opens up many doors when when he gets that much attention.”
ON IF TEXAS IS STARTING TO FEEL MORE LIKE HOME:
“For sure. I mean is it’s always really been home because of where I’m from, being born and raised in Houston. You know I always wanted to play in front of the people in my state and in front of my family like this. Like who wouldn’t want to play in front of their state?”
Jaylan Ford, LB
ON THE DEFENSIVE PERFORMANCE:
“Everybody that’s on that field has a job to do and has an assignment. So it’s not just one person doing it, you know, it’s the whole team. It’s the whole defense. And I think that just speaks volumes to the unity we have on defense and you know, the ability that whoever rolls in, you know, they can get the job done.”
ON LOOKING AHEAD TO OKLAHOMA
“You know, now that we’ve got, you know, Kansas behind us. I definitely think we can finally start to focus on OU, it’ll start tomorrow as far as preparation. I think just another challenge though, that’s kind of what you play football for. That’s what you do all those workouts and you know, all that extra work that you do in the summer is for games like this, to go out there and continue to show how good you are.”
