Quinn Ewers, QB
“You know, I don’t think we started as well as we wanted, or as we expect to, but super proud of how we came out in the second half. Where last year we might have had some difficulties in the in the third quarter and fourth quarter, I think it just took us a little bit longer than we expected to kind of settle in and play our game.”
Ewers, on his 19-of-30, 260 yards, and four total touchdown performance:
“There’s definitely some things I’m going to learn from the film, obviously, but you know, it was good to get back out there and compete against someone else that’s not your own team.”
Ewers, on Rice’s defensive fronts
“Yeah, I think collectively, we kind of realized after the first quarter like they’re doing different things. They say anticipate certain coverages react to others. So, so we definitely had to change some stuff up the team.”
Xavier Worthy, WR
Worthy, on the expected physicality of Rice
“It was our very first game coming out of camp. Everybody’s looking forward to that first game so I feel like it was a good feel to tune up game.”
Worthy, on possibility of knowing what needs to improve for Alabama.
“Not right now. I feel like we have to go and watch the film, and see what needs to be fixed. And the throws that need to be fixed and the rest to fix. When we got in the locker room, Sark’s after game speech was like ‘my feet aren’t in Bryant-Denny Stadium’ so I feel like we need to match his energy and be where he’s at.”

Adonai Mitchell, WR
Mitchell, on being back on the field
“It was good to be out there and feel great. You know it was the first time for a lot of things and first Bevo walk. Now it was amazing but I’m excited for more, for sure.”
Mitchell, on what it takes to win championships
“Coach Sark said before the game even started that there was going to be adversity and things weren’t going to go the way we want it to go all the time. And it showed out there. Now it’s all about just bouncing back and I feel like we did that coming out of the halftime with Quinn leading the way with three touchdowns right off the bat. That was what we needed. You know what? Alabama is not unbeatable. How do you beat them? We’ll get into that Monday when we when we start having meetings about them and stuff.”
Jaylan Ford, LB
Ford, on preseason talk about creating turnovers
“I’m still mad, I tried to strip me one but couldn’t get it. So, no, I’m never really satisfied. But, you know, just emphasizing turnovers. Throughout the offseason, that was a big part of our development on defense. I had a turnover. Jett (Bush) had a fumble recovery. Austin Jordan, he had an interception so just emphasizing those turnovers, it makes our job a lot easier giving the ball back to the offense. And I was really glad how we did today.”
Ford, on being a team leader and keeping guys focused
“Actually, I don’t think it was hard at all. I think a lot of us were really just excited. You know, I kind of brought the team up before we went out there and I made an emphasis on the last time we took the field was December 29th. And we didn’t really have the outcome we wanted. 247 days later, now it’s time for us to go out there and show everybody we’ve been working for this whole offseason. So I think it was a lot of energy. And I think we came out strong on defense, really brought the heat and we kind of brought the energy and then all together you know, I think we just showed our resilience throughout the whole game.”
