Texas men’s basketball and Sean Miller got their first commitment of the 2025 portal cycle per ESPN in former Xavier wing Dailyn Swain, a defensive prospect with real scoring upside who will follow his former head coach and leave Cincinnati for Austin.

Swain committed after his visit to Texas in the early part of this week.

The 6-foot-8, 220-pound forward averaged 11.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.6 assists on 53% shooting this past season. An inside-the-arc scorer primarily as he shoots just 25% from deep, Swain demonstrated his ceiling during a monster game in Xavier’s first-round matchup against Illinois. He hit three of his five three-point attempts en route to scoring a career-best 27 points, as well as grabbing eight rebounds, dishing three dimes, and recording three steals.

His versatile skillset allows him to be valuable in several different aspects on both ends of the floor. He’s able to handle the ball very well for a wing, so much so that he even served as the ballhandler in big-to-big pick-and-rolls with Zach Freemantle throughout last season. Swain’s athleticism allows for him to comfortably switch on defense between guards, wings, and even certain forwards. He can help anchor a defense without being a center because of this switchability.

A four-star recruit coming out of high school according to On3, Swain garnered offers from schools like Marquette, Kansas State, Cincinnati, and Ohio State before ultimately deciding on Xavier as his home, where he played for two seasons. He is a prospect that has gotten a few professional looks already, and with improvement, will almost certainly be selected in the 2026 NBA Draft.

Swain’s commitment out of the portal marks a very important development in Miller’s building of this Texas roster, as Swain is a plug-and-play type of wing that can provide value as a day-one starter. He may have been the most important player on the Xavier roster that this staff could have brought to Texas, and Miller was able to convince him to follow instead of staying near home and going to Ohio State.
