After talking about outside zone last week, Ian Boyd and LC discuss inside zone. How do you tell if a play is inside zone? Offensive linemen are moving forward at the snap instead of moving laterally with a purpose. The running back aims his run inside instead of aiming outside, though it’s possible to bounce a run outside.
The “progression” is more narrow for backs in inside zone. Tom Herman’s offense included a lot of inside zone, and asked backs to see where linebackers were and make them wrong. Steve Sarkisian does things differently and makes it appear as if it’s outside zone in a sense before the line starts moving forward.
