2025 New Mexico LB Mason Posa earns USC offer
Among the offers that were extended this weekend from USC, there was one in the class of 2025. That would be to Albuquerque (NM) La Cueva linebacker Mason Posa, who went to social media to announce his offer.
Posa was on hand in the Coliseum on Saturday for the game against Utah.
It was head coach Lincoln Riley that Posa talked to when receiving the news he was getting the offer from the Trojans.
In the On3 rankings, Posa is tabbed as the No. 37 linebacker in the class of 2025 as well as being the No. 1 prospect in the state of New Mexico.
The offer sheet
So far, 13 programs have offered the 6-foot-3, 190 pound junior. They are USC, New Mexico, Texas Tech, Oregon, Arizona State, Nebraska, California, Washington, Wisconsin, Utah, Oklahoma State, TCU, and Duke.
A multi sport athlete
If there is one sport that helps the development of linebackers the most, it seems to be wrestling. There are many elite linebackers in the NFL who all competed in the same sport at some point in high school and that is wrestling.
Posa is a wrestler, and a good one at that. In fact, he was a New Mexico State Champion wrester last year.
He was also named the Metro Wrester of the Year after putting up a 31-1 record, going undefeated against New Mexico competition. He also had 27 pins in his wrestling season, three of which came in his state tournament.

The full list was USC, Colorado, Georgia, Miami, Georgia Tech, Ohio State, LSU, Alabama, Michigan, and Kentucky.
Melendez is the No. 150 overall prospect and No. 17 linebacker in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 23 player in Florida.
On3 however is much higher on Melendez, tabbing him as the No. 49 overall prospect and No. 9 linebacker in the 2025 cycle.
Melendez is an impressive athlete, reporting a 4.5-second 40-yard dash at 220 pounds. His speed is evident on film and he plays with a natural aggression and style that allows him to make plays across the field.
