While the list of uncommitted defensive back targets is short as of October 31, Cibolo (TX) Safety and Vanderbilt commit Dontae Carter’s become a primary target for Coach Donte Williams.

As of now, the 2024 USC defensive backs recruiting class consists of CB Marcelles Williams, Safety Marquis Gallegos, Safety Jarvis Boatwright, CB Isiah Rubin and CB Braylon Conley.

While it’s sounding like Carter’s firm with his Vandy pledge and may not take any visits, we do expect Gallegos, Rubin and Williams to be at the Coliseum Saturday (11/4) when the Trojans take on Washington.

Williams’ brotherly love

As most reading this article will know, Marcelles has a brother on the USC football team. Max Williams, his oldest brother, is a fifth-year senior for the Trojans and started out the season a starter. He hasn’t played since the Notre Dame game, but we do expect him back this season.

Williams told WeAreSC that he will be at the Coliseum Saturday after missing the last two home games.

It’s also noteworthy that Marcelles’s other brother Macen Williams plays cornerback at Arizona St.

Impressive visitor list expected

At some point in the next day or two, we’ll publish a detailed list of notable USC targets planning to attend the Washington game. There will be two high profile visitors from Georgia in 5-Star 2026 QB and USC commit Julian “JuJu” Lewis from Carrollton and 4-Star 2025 Atlanta Edge London Merritt.

Current 2024 Recruiting Class for USC

As of October 31, the 16 2024 USC verbal commits include, TE Walter Matthews, WR Ryan Pellum, OLB Elijah Newby, WR Xavier Jordan, EDGE Kameryn Fountain, TE Joey Olsen, Safety Jarvis Boatwright Jr., OL Makai Saina, Safety Marquis Gallegos, RB Bryan Jackson, OT Hayden Treter, CB Marcelles Williams, CB Braylon Conley, DL Deyvid Palepale, CB Isaiah Rubin and OL Jason Zandamela.

In mid June, there were more than 20 prospects favoring the Trojans in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. A good portion of them visited USC in the spring and/or and scheduled official visit. At one point USC was set to host 35 official visitors in May and June, but 30 actually took the visits.

USC finished the 2023 class ranked inside the top-10 and Lincoln Riley and staff have started off on the right foot with an opportunity to repeat that feat in the 2024 class.
