BREAKING: 2024 LB Elijah Newby commits to USC
USC has gained another commitment this week. Cheshire (CT) Academy three-star linebacker Elijah Newby has announced his pledge to the Trojans moment ago on Twitter.
Newby is the No. 451 overall prospect and No. 47 linebacker in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 6 player in Connecticut.

Highlights of USC official visit
“The highlights of the visit was how authentic the staff and players were,” Newby previously told WeAreSC. “I got a lot of different perspectives from current players and former players. They all talked about how real the coaches are and how amazing it is being there.”
Role in the defense
“Due to my athleticism, Coach (Lincoln) Riley, (Roy) Manning, and (Alex) Grinch see me capable of playing multiple positions, including Will LB, Rush LB, Inside LB, and Outside LB,” Newby said.
USC beats out big list of competitors
Newby, 6-foot-3, 205 pounds, holds 31 offers in his recruitment. Among his offers are Alabama, Penn State, Michigan, Nebraska, South Carolina, Texas Tech, Stanford, Kentucky, Utah, and North Carolina.
Newby is also a highly smart prospect, holding offers from Army, Vanderbilt, Yale, Dartmouth, Columbia, and several other Ivy League schools.

Once again, the Trojans have landed a commitment from a prospect who was favored to land elsewhere. Prior to commitment, The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine favored Penn State above USC.
More on the current class for USC
To date, the eight other commitments in the 2024 class are Gardena (Calif.) Junipero Serra four-star cornerback Dakoda Fields, Los Angeles (Cal.) Sierra Canyon four-star Xavier Jordan, Atlanta (Ga.) Washington four-star EDGE Kameryn Fountain, Lake Oswego (Ore.) Lakeridge four-star tight end Joey Olsen, Clearwater (Fla.) four-star safety Jarvis Boatwright Jr., Modesto (Calif.) Central Catholic four-star offensive tackle Manasse Itete, McKinney (Tex.) three-star running back Bryan Jackson, and Englewood (CO) Cherry Creek three-star offensive lineman Hayden Treter.
Also, as of right now, there are more than 20 prospects in the class of 2024 who are currently favored in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine to land with USC. A good portion of them visited USC this spring and/or are planning official visits in the summer.
The Trojans are currently set to host 35 official visitors in the month of June, primarily scheduled for two major visit weekends. The staff will hope for similar success as last cycle when they landed more than 10 of their June official visitors.
USC finished the 2023 class ranked inside the top-10 and Lincoln Riley and staff have started off on the right foot with an opportunity to repeat that feat in the 2024 class.
